Robin's association with the club started in 1988 when his son joined mini rugby at the age of 7. He later started playing for NAGRFC in 1990, then playing in the 4th team. He was also the fixture secretary for the mini and junior section which he did for some years and he also coached his sons team all the way up to colt level in 1998. He started playing for the 1st team from 1994 initially he was second row, but then moved into the position he loved best Tight Head Prop, also he was a players representative. In 2000 on the last game of the season he announced that it was to be his last first team game as he was stepping down from playing 1st team rugby as he was 44 but unfortunately he broke his leg. The following year he became club Chairman.

Brendan had been playing rugby in Cardiff and at Uni since 1957 he joined NAGRFC in 1975 after moving to the village in June of that year. Because of a back problem he took the opportunity to move out of the front row and played mainly centre or full back and occasionally fly half for the first team. He became vice captain in 1976.
Later on he played a lot for the Vets, usually in the second row or back row although eventually he had played every position on the field at some point!
During this time, he spent most Sundays and a lot of committee time helping with the Minis and Juniors, including the 1988 Kent Festival at NAG.
He had several spells as chair of the Minis and Juniors and one period as chair of NAGRFC.
Brendan also spent quite a lot of time coaching the senior men, latterly with Adrian Hollingworth until the early 2000s. This was partly because his three children, Michael, Peter and Cristina had all played mini-rugby. Michael and Peter went on to play all the age group rugby for NAG and were very instrumental in recruiting schoolfriends and University buddies to keep the club going in difficult times. Adrian had been their coach as juniors and came back during Michael’s time as captain of the senior men’s team. Brendan pays tribute to the late Jamie Burwood who was such an enthusiastic influence on that group of players and is still missed.
Brendan's wife, Tina, was a great asset and did a lot of coaching with the minis, organising the festivals, cooking meals for the junior fixtures, promoting mini-rugby in the primary schools etc. and generally putting up with the all the phone calls and meetings.
